NEW DETAILS LEAKED ON CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS COLD WAR’S ZOMBIES MODE

Less than two weeks from launch, Activision has suffered a sizable leak of information on Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.  The leak contained a wealth of details on the upcoming game’s Zombies mode, breaking down returning features, new tweaks, and much more.  Obviously Activision hasn’t commented on the validity of these leaks, but the general consensus is that this is the real deal.  As long as you don’t mind a spoiler or two, read on to see what awaits in Call of Duty’s latest zombie outing.

Right out of the gate, long-time fans of the Zombies mode in other Call of Duty games seem to be a bit worried about a major shift on the way.  A new armor mechanic will be included in the mode, which gives operators the ability to use three armor plates at once.  Furthermore, armor can be updated a total of three times at various armor upgrade stations around the map.  This feature alone has players wondering if the Zombies mode is going to be more challenging than ever, or nerfed to ease in newcomers.

Another element shocking players is the new Rune upgrade system.  This feature allows operators to permanently upgrade AATs, Perks, Field Upgrades and Weapon Classes.  These can be upgraded a total of 3 times each, which would amount to a possible 72 upgrades in total.  Upgrades are handled by earning Aetherium, which you gather by playing.  How much you earn and when it’s dished out have not been revealed.

Alternate Ammo Types return this year, but have been renamed as Ammo Mods.  There are four different types to pick from, including Cryofreeze (Frost damage and slows enemies), Dead Wire (Electric damage and stuns enemies), Napalm Blast (Fire damage and burns zombies), and Brain Rot (Turns a zombie to ally).  Players will pick which mod they want when using the Pack-a-Punch machine, and there is a new Perk that can activate a random mod.

Following that, Specialists are being replaced by something called Field Upgrades, which include both offensive and defensive options.  These have a cooldown system, so operators can’t spam them unfairly.  The lineup includes Aether Shroud, Ring of Fire, Healing Aura, Frost Blast, and Energy Mine.  It does seem that even more will be available in the game, but it’s not clear if they’ll be up for grabs at launch, or added at a later date through DLC.

Next up is a new Wonder Weapon addition.  Wonder Weapons are super-powered, fictional weapons that you only find in the Zombies game mode.  This time around, players can grab the D.I.E., which uses four different ammo types.  You’ll be able to wipe out zombie forces using the Nitro Stream, Particle Beam, Plasma Ball and Gas Cloud options.  Depending on your situation and the incoming onslaught, the right type of ammo could help you live to fight another day.
