Frequently asked questions

1. After shutting down my computer, my Kone XTD Optical stays lit. Can I deactivate this somewhere?
The fact that the light continues to glow after shutting down your PC is because the USB ports are still powered. This is down to your mainboard's BIOS settings. However, you can deactivate this feature on the majority of mainboards. Every vendor uses its own name (e.g. "App Charger") and this can be deactivated in the BIOS settings.

2. When I click "APPLY" in the driver software, the changes are not implemented.

It takes longer than 10 seconds to save changes to the driver software:

Win7
Check that your antivirus program isn’t blocking the driver software. See the example for how to create an exception rule.
If you use the default Microsoft Security Essentials program, you can add the rule under the tab "Settings", "Excluded files and locations" as well as via "Excluded processes".
Simply add the folder C:Program Files (x86)ROCCAT by searching for it.

Win8
Check that your antivirus program isn’t blocking the driver software. Open "Windows Defender" (or your antivirus program) and create an exception for the ROCCAT driver as shown in the example.

3. All the buttons show "Disabled" in the driver software/Buttons are black or blank.
Plug in a second mouse and click "Driver Reset" under the "Advanced Control" option in the driver software.

4. I get an error message “The InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe) could not be installed”.
First, unzip the zip file. It can cause problems if you try to run the setup from the zipped file.
You must be logged in as the administrator. If you are not logged in as the administrator, right-click the .exe file and click "Run as administrator".
If the "MSI Afterburner" program is running, end it when installing the ROCCAT driver. In particular, make sure the "RTSS.exe" process is not running in the background. You can check this via Task Manager.

5. I need a Mac driver for my Kone XTD Optical.
Unfortunately no Mac driver is available for the Kone XTD Optical. The only product we offer a Mac driver for is the Kone XTD. Perhaps this mouse is a suitable alternative for you:

6. I created a macro which only comprises a single key yet it doesn't work reliably.
You must use shortcuts if your game doesn't detect the buttons.
In the driver software, under "Button Assignment" click the particular macro button and using "Assign a Shortcut" select a key which you are not using in the game such as "J". To save, click "OK" and then "APPLY" on the bottom right.
Even if the game doesn't support the macro button, you can now configure the particular button assignment while ingame.

7. I can't change the LED color on my Kone XTD Optical.
You can't change the color if Color Flow is activated. Under the "Color Control" tab, set the right-hand middle option to "No color flow (off)".
